As promised, here's the recipe for the Reindeer Food/Blizzard Bites I showed you yesterday, and step-by-step photos of the process are shown below. I've tried a few variations in ingredients, but this is what I've come to like the most.
**This post will also start a 12 Inchies of Christmas theme I'll be showing you throughout this month! I hope to get them all done for you by next Friday, December 19, so be watching for those Inchie posts about every other day!
I used more of the My Minds Eye Be Merry red snowflake paper as the 4" x 6" base to my recipe card. I printed the recipe onto Neenah Classic Natural White cardstock, trimmed it to 3.25" x 5", and stamped it with a little snowflake cluster from Taylored Expressions Home Sweet Home stamp set, using Memento Summer Sky ink. The edges were sponged with Ranger's Antique Linen Distress ink.
The cute little Lockhart Itty Bitty Snow Buddy (#3042) was stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink onto an Inchie Arts White Inchie Square and colored with these Copic markers:
The snowflake is a Spellbinders die that I covered with Diamond Dust chunky glass glitter, using Diamond Glaze to adhere it:
The center of the snowflake is dotted with a clear crystal that I colored with Copic B-00 to give it a slight blue tint.
Here's how you make the Blizzard Bites . . . (full recipe is printed below):
Place all ingredients except white chocolate chips into a large bowl. I use Tupperware's extra large Fix-n-Mix Bowl and when you are finished covering it with the chocolate, it all won't fit back into the bowl -- I told you this recipe makes a TON!
Melt chocolate chips in double-boiler, stirring frequently until melted. I thought I had a double-boiler, but had to improvise!
You *could* try this step in the microwave, but you'll need to zap it for short periods of time, stirring it frequently in between . . . and keep a very close eye on it -- it can burn VERY easily. Ask me how I know this!
Pour the melted chocolate over the cereal mixture and gently fold it in until the chocolate evenly coats everything:
Spread mixture onto wax paper and let chocolate dry/harden:
Once hardened, break any large clumps into smaller pieces and store in an airtight container.
BLIZZARD BITES - from Sharon Harnist
6 C Wheat Chex + 2 C Cheerios or 8 C cereal of your choice
2 C nuts (I do 1 C pecan halves + 1 C cashews, salted peanuts are also good)
2 C pretzel twists
1 Lb. bag plain M&M’s (red & green, if you can find them)
(3) 12-oz bags white chocolate chips
Place all ingredients except chocolate chips into large bowl. Melt chocolate chips in double-boiler, stirring frequently. When melted, pour white chocolate over cereal mixture and gently fold into cereal until evenly coated. Spread mixture onto wax paper and let chocolate dry/harden. Break any large clumps into smaller pieces and store in airtight container.
ENJOY!!
