Last week, my friends Beate and Lori and I decided to have a little fun and all of us use the same stamped images, paper & embellishments and see how different our cards turned out. So sweet Beate stamped us some cute Stampendous bees and mailed them out. Long story short -- I'm still waiting on those little bees to make it the semi-short distance between Florida and Texas!
So plan B was to use the cool sketch Beate just posted today and the only other stipulation was to use Stampin' Up's new Palette of Prints (POP) designer paper. Here's my 5.25" square card:
I decided to stay within a monochromatic saffron/mustard range of the POP (my favorite color in the group!) and pair it with my new PaperTrey Ink acrylic stamps I hadn't had a chance to use yet. I know most people wouldn't stamp brown & mustard flowers but that's the way I tend to go about stamping . . . looking for a use and/or color scheme that most people wouldn't normally use!
The focal image is PT's Green Thumb set and the acrylic stamps make it so easy to perfectly place your flowers in a grouping like this. I used dye inks on smooth vanilla cardstock, distressed and sponged the edges, and finished the flowers off with glitter, of course! (The glitter isn't as gloppy as it appears in the photo though -- it really caught the light this time). This layer is mounted on dimensionals.
The brown PaperTrey Faux Ribbon strip uses two of the ribbon stamps, stamped with with Cloud White VersaMagic Dew Drop chalk ink. Faux stitching on the next layer is also a stamp from the PT Faux Ribbon set. I stamped it with Sahara Sand Dew Drop and then pierced holes to resemble real stitching. I used Stampin' Up's paper piercing template for this -- using every other hole was a perfect match for the stitches!
Prima flowers finish off the sketch and I added a birthday sentiment also from the PaperTrey Faux Ribbon set.
Be sure to check out Lori's card at Make a Difference and Beate's card at Fresh & Fun -- it's fun to see how different our cards turned out! While you're at Beate's blog, be sure to try out that sketch for yourself and post a link there -- she's giving away some great blog candy this weekend!
Thanks for the fun challenge, girls, and for getting me to stamp this week. Where DOES all the time go?!! Hopefully those little bees make it to me soon and we can do this again!
